Anticipating Summit Day 1 - The Keynotes

We're are at the Sydney Convention Centre at Darling Harbour, sharing it with the Sydney Boat Show.

Its 7:30 AM and Registration starts at 8:00 AM. The team is assembled and already working hard to ensure all delegates are made welcome at the start of the event.

We now have over 500 delegates registered, so we anticipate well attended sessions, and an excellent atmosphere for networking and knowledge sharing, which is what SAUG and the event is all about.

The keynotes today promise to be varied in nature, with the 3 keynote speakers from different countries, and speaking on very different topics.

I will be interested to hear from Ross O'Brien from Hong Kong, on surviving and propsering in the post GFC economy.

Then we have a Business Intelligence story from the Walt Disney Company from a US speaker, Kenneth Hierman.

Rounding out the sessions for the day is a local customer story from Queensland Rail, relating their ERP Transformation story.

With the 3 sessions above, the breakout sessions, the sponsors area, a SAP demo area, and the Cocktail Party where "SAUG Rocks" it promises to be a big day and evening.

  1. The Summit started today. The event opened with collection of media headings related to SAP from the previous year. This certainly set the scene for the event.

The first keynote was Ross O'brien from the Economist Intelligence Unit who discussed the impacts facing many Australian companies. The concern is that even though Australia have coped better than other companies there maybe worst to come.

The second keynote was Kenn fro Disney Resorts and Parks who discussed their Business Objects and SAP BW journey. They have achieved a lot in this space where other companies have struggled. it was an excellent presentation.

I have just heard the BI session involving Phil Merrick from SAP and Dennis Lewis, CIO 7-Eleven is standing room only.

I am heading towards information overload and it is only part way through day one.
